| Kol Shofar: An Introduction |
Kol Shofar is your place to form meaningful connections, access Jewish
education for you and your family, and celebrate and discover the joys
of Jewish life in a spiritually dynamic community.
We are a community
of warm, welcoming people who come together to pray, celebrate, learn,
practice Tzedakah, form life-long friendships, and help each other
through lifes ups and downs. We embrace our congregations diversity
of Jewish expression. Both women and men participate equally in all
aspects of congregation life, and children are actively encouraged to
join in. Our doors are open to members and non-members, to all Jews,
and to any and all non-Jews who wish to be part of our community. Our
congregation provides a welcoming environment for interfaith families, and embraces all individuals regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Kol Shofar is your place to form meaningful connections, to access Jewish education for you and your family and to celebrate and discover the joys of Jewish life in a spiritually dynamic community.
We believe that the role of the synagogue is to support each individual and family in their exploration of Jewish tradition and their personal search for Jewish meaning. We also encourage the examination of Jewish spiritual practices that guide us in establishing a mature relationship with God. We hope people will be inspired to grow spiritually and engage Jewish ritual and religious practice.
Because we recognize the importance of functioning as part of a community, we expect that when we gather for Kol Shofar events, everyone will honor our traditions and observances, which are guided by the teachings of the Conservative movement as interpreted by our rabbis.
We strive to be a community that cherishes and embodies the values of intimacy and loving care and that deeply touches the lives of its members and responds to their heartfelt needs.
We extend our warm welcome to all Jews and non-Jews alike who wish to be a part of our community. Our congregation provides a welcoming environment for interfaith families and embraces all individuals regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
We believe Jewish life is meant to be joyous and celebratory. We are dedicated to creating the joyful experiences that shape positive Jewish memories.
We pride ourselves on being a highly participatory community. We encourage our members to take active roles in leading our services and in other areas of ritual and worship, and provide educational opportunities so that congregants of all ages can learn to do so.
We encourage the full participation of our children and youth in the life of our community and dedicate ourselves to educating and serving them through our religious school and youth programming.
We are passionately committed to the State of Israel and urge our members to support Israel in all possible ways. We encourage people to learn about, visit and when possible, to study there, as well as make financial contributions. We encourage dialogue and active engagement in all issues connected to Israel.

Congregation Kol Shofar teens make a difference in the world.
Philanthropy
isnt easy. It requires training, experience and a commitment to
tzedakah (giving to charity). This year, the Jewish Community Teen
Foundations offered a select group of Bay Area Jewish teens the
opportunity to explore Jewish values and ideas, develop leadership
skills, and the opportunity to practice informed and directed
philanthropy. Teens serve on a board and learn how to run their own
non-profit foundations and to become strategic grant-makers. This year
the goal was to fund projects that provide people in developing
communities with access to safe drinking water, with a focus on South
and Southeast Asia, through education and sustainable technologies. Over
the year the board raised $43,092 with a combination of 370 donors and
21 fundraisers. Kol Shofar teens, Hallie and Ari Goldstein, Rebecca

Sisterhood in the News! This story appeared in www.arknewspaper.com, January 2011: Members of the Walking Sisterhood enjoyed a sunny afternoon on their weekly outing. The women, aka Not Your Mother's Sisterhood, are members of Congregation Kol Shofar, and they recently began meeting each Saturday afternoon at Belvedere Community Park to walk, talk, share stories and insights, and make new friends. Illana Parker organized the outings so that the women could get to know each other better in a social environment. Photo: Elliot Karlan

January 4. Prayers provide foundation for new, domed sanctuary by Amanda Pazornik, staff writer for the J-
Members of Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon didnt have to travel as far as Israels Western Wall in hopes of having their prayers answered. In fact, all they had to do was maneuver through a construction zone, find a spot on a makeshift balcony and watch their rabbis do all the work.
On Aug. 17, about 70 congregants perched on scaffolding inside the future site of Kol Shofars domed sanctuary to watch Rabbis Lavey Derby and Chai Levy bury hundreds of their prayers beneath the gravel. The small sheets of paper and even childrens pictures were to become a permanent part of the future floor once the concrete was poured.

Congratulations to Shabbat Swap Coordinator Matt Mercurio! The Shabbat Swap allows people seeking a Kabbalat Shabbat dinner to find a place to go, and people with extra space at their tables to offer these. Email Matt at ksshabbatswap@yahoo.com if you're either seeking a place, or if you have extra space. Also in the J, May 21 Can you dig it?
