Attention All Cyclists! Kol Shofar is participating as part of the Mitzvah Milers Cycling Club at Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride 2008 in Marin/Sonoma on September 14. Ride 50 or 75 miles through the beautiful Wine Country to raise funds for research and programming to benefit those with Multiple Sclerosis. During the past four years, the Mitzvah Milers have raised over $135,000 for this great cause. The Club provides a free team bike jersey for new participants meeting the $350 fundraising minimum. The Mitzvah Milers are a group of over 150 individuals representing two dozen Bay Area synagogues that builds community and helps others through cycling. For more information and to get on the Club email list, visit www.mitzvahmilers.com.
A note from Rabbi Levy: Immigration, Ethics, our Food and our Response
Many of you are aware that the largest immigration raid in US history took place at the Agriprocessors (Rubashkin) plant in Postville, Iowa. Agriprocessors is the largest producer of kosher meat in the world. 60% of all the kosher beef and 40% of the kosher poultry in the United States is produced there.
This raid raises our attention to two important issues for us. First, the raid revealed allegations of the serious abuse of workers at Agriprocessors. Read more about it here. I ask you read the statement released by the Conservative Movement encouraging our response to these allegations here.
Second, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids are impacting people in our own community. If you are able to be of service to Marin families affected by these raids, please contact www.canalalliance.org. Also, there are organizing efforts underway in the Jewish and Interfaith communities to respond to ICE raids in our local community - please let me know if you are interested in getting involved. 415-388-1818 x 11.

| Welcome to Kol Shofar |
|
Congregation Kol Shofar, Marin County's conservative synagogue, is a vibrant, progressive center of Jewish life, with a growing community of more than 600 families in the Bay Area. Kol Shofar is your place to form meaningful connections, to access Jewish education for you and your family, and to celebrate and discover the joys of Jewish life in a spiritually dynamic community.
We are a community of warm, welcoming people who come together to pray, celebrate, learn, practice Tzedakah, form life-long friendships, and help each other through life’s ups and downs.
We embrace our congregation’s diversity of Jewish expression. Both women and men participate equally in all aspects of congregation life and children are actively encouraged to join in. Our doors are always open to members and non-members, to all Jews and to any and all non-Jews who wish to be a part of our community. Our congregation provides a welcoming environment for interfaith families and embraces all individuals regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

We all have a cause we care about - whether it's finding a cure for cancer, saving the environment, finding homes for abandoned pets or so many other worthwhile endeavors. But what we don't all have is the time or money to support these efforts as much as we'd like. So, what if we could raise money for our favorite charities and schools by doing something we do every day — searching the Internet. GoodSearch is a search engine which donates 50% of its revenue to charities and schools designated by its users. It's a simple and compelling concept. Use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine. Because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. The money donated to your cause comes from advertisers — the users and the organizations do not spend a dime! In 2007, GoodSearch was expanded to include GoodShop, an online shopping mall of world-class merchants dedicated to helping causes across the country. Each purchase made via the GoodShop mall results in a donation to the designated charity or school – averaging approximately 3% of the sale, but going up to 20% or even more.
Go to www.goodsearch.com, and designate Congregation Kol Shofar as your charity of choice. Then all you have to do is start using Goodsearch as your search engine instead of Google! And remember, Goodsearch uses the same search engine as Yahoo! Every little bit helps!

Struggling to grasp the concept of six-million Holocaust victims, the students decide to collect six-million paper clips to better understand the extent of this crime against humanity. The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their community.
