Be Involved in Rosh Hodesh at Kol Shofar
Experience your Jewish-ness in new and refreshing ways with a group of accepting and welcoming women of all ages.
Rosh Hodesh, at Kol Shofar, is a chance for Jewish women to gather together monthly on or near the new moon, the Rosh Hodesh. Since ancient times it has been a Jewish tradition for women of all ages to come together at the beginning of each Hebrew month to honor themselves, each other and the cycle of the moon.

Rosh Hodesh meets on Sunday afternoons or close to the day of the new moon. Each month we host gatherings and events which vary in theme and location. Each of us participates at some level – either hosting or leading the event, bringing snacks to share, or bringing a story or ritual object for sharing. Sometimes we meet at individual’s homes, or at the synagogue. As a member of the group, you will be invited, but are under no obligation to attend every gathering of our many varied theme-based activities.
Rosh Hodesh gatherings are a chance to be immersed in women’s energy and bonding. Our focus is social, supportive, compassionate and spiritual. We study Torah, Kabbalah, other Jewish texts in ways that include sharing food, singing, praying, dancing, celebrating holidays, sharing family traditions, and studying Hebrew traditionally and through the arts.
We are an evolving, inclusive, and open group. Some gatherings are more festive and others are more contemplative. We always take time to do something meaningful and connect to our present time and place. Imagine being with other women in our community for an important ritual-- lighting of the Hanukkah candles, a Seder, a Shabbat meal, while emphasizing social time and learning. We hope you will join us.
